ABC News, which covered the OJJDP grantmaking scandal in a segment on Nightline last week, has posted an online update about today’s oversight committee hearing. It seems that Henry Waxman isn’t only interested in how OJJDP administrator J. Robert Flores disbursed grants (overlooking higher-ranked orgs for lower-ranked ones with Christian-right agendas and/or ties to the Bush Administration) but also potential violations of federal ethics law. Turns out Flores hit the links with officials at an organization that teaches troubled teens how to play golf (the World Golf Foundation received a federal grant of $500,000) and only yesterday remembered to reimburse the group for the fee.
