Mauffray Agrees to Open Jena Six Trial

Responding to a complaint from a consortium of media companies, LaSalle Parish Judge J.P. Mauffray agreed on Thursday to open Jena Six defendant Mychal Bell’s juvenile court proceedings. Bell’s pretrial hearings, however, will remain closed.

The 17-year-old will appear in court December 6 to face charges of aggravated second-degree battery and conspiracy for his role in a six-on-one fight with pro-noose classmate Justin Barker.
