Private Prisons Hearing in Texas

Texas State Senators held a hearing Friday to look into the private management of a network of prisons throughout the state–and to get some information from the GEO Group, which recently lost its contract with the Coke County Juvenile Center after a surprise audit found conditions at the facility deplorable and unsafe. Unfortunately, the GEO Group didn’t bother to show up. “While the hearing answered few questions,” according to the Austin American-Statesman, “it signaled that big regulatory changes could be in store for private prisons in Texas.”
